One of the most remote areas of the Terai is the incredibly beautiful Babai Valley. This pristine location is home to some of the finest fishing in all of Nepal. The Babai river teems with many varieties of fish.
The scenery alone makes this trip worthwhile. It is a camping trip where you spend your days rafting down this wonderfully scenic river while camping under a canopy of stars above you at night. You will rarely see the night skies as beautiful as you will in the Babai Valley away from all of the lights of the outside world. This is what it was like for your ancestors before the days of electricity.
The trip is four nights, five days of fun and adventure. This being a national park, so it is catch and release in order to preserve the species of fish. Along the way, you may see elephants coming down to drink or even a rhino. It’s a wonderful experience that will leave you with incredible memories and photographs.

(This trip includes all permit for fishing, rafting, camping and entrance to national park.)
Detailed Itinerary
DAY 1 – ARRIVAL IN BARDIA NATIONAL PARK
The first day brings you by flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj where you will be greeted by your personal representative from Babai Resort. The flight is awesome from Kathmandu as you fly above the mighty Himalayas. The journey to Babai Resort takes you through quaint villages and forests. After arrival, enjoy a welcome drink, check into your room, relax and have lunch. Following lunch, visit a Tharu village as well as the elephant breeding grounds.
DAY 2 – FIRST DAY OF FISHING TRIP
Rise refreshed and after breakfast, travel to the village of Chepang to begin our rafting trip down the Babai River. We’ll see wildlife along the way. We put in at the village of Chepang and raft down to our campsite at Shivapur. We’ll camp and have dinner along side of the river, spending part of the day fishing. We can stop at various places to do our fishing from shore. The river gets blocked in places, creating small lakes where the fishing is at its finest.
DAY 3 – SECOND DAY OF RAFTING
Our camping chef will have the coffee ready as he prepares breakfast. We break camp and get into our rafts as we work our way farther down the river to reach either our campsites of Sanoshree or ThuloShree. The scenery is incredible in this deep valley as the water is so crystal clear. We can actually look over the side of the raft and see the fish looking back at us! We finally reach our campsite and have a wonderful dinner (lunch is somewhere along the way). Sleep soundly in the night air of the Babai Valley.
DAY 4 – THE THIRD DAY ON THE RIVER
The smell of breakfast touches our nostrils as we rise to greet the new day. We are rafting some more, heading now to our campsite at Gunthi. More opportunities for fishing as well as watching for animals coming down to the river to drink. In the evening we have our final night on the river with a wonderful hot meal cooked by our master chef.
DAY 5 – FINAL DAY ON RIVER
It’s our final day on the river. We wake up, have breakfast and then raft down to Parewadar Bridge which is on the main highway of Nepal. We return to Babai Resort to relax in our luxury room and eat in the wonderful restaurant. In the evening, enjoy a Tharu cultural program before turning in for the night.
DAY 6 – DEPARTURE
It’s time to return to Kathmandu, but we have good news for you. You don’t have to go back yet! You can easily add on more days to explore the Bardia National Park. Choose from jeep safaris, nature walks and much more. These days, you will stay at Babai Resort, taking advantage of the pool, massage (extra) or just relaxing in our gardens and lounge.
