Babai Resort Location and Environment

We are located on the banks of the Giruwa River, a branch of the Karnali River which flows downwards on its way to the Ganga River in India, known as Ghaghara by the local People after it meets Ganga River. This river separates us from Bardia National Park, and for this reason you can see wildlife right from the lodge.

For the best view head to our rooftop café where you have the chance to see a crocodile or the rare Ganges River Dolphin; a freshwater dolphin which is virtually blind, this species is in risk of extinction but is doing well inside the park.

The park is a mere 10 minute walk from the official entrance to Bardia National Parka and just 15 minutes from the marketplace where you can find fruits, snacks, toiletries, electronics and anything else you may be missing! Close to the marketplace is the main temple of the area which dates back 100s of years and is a popular place for locals to pray and gather.

Following the river in the opposite direction you will find elephant breeding centre. Behind the elephant breeding centre you can access a wide grassy bank of the Giruwa River where wildlife sightings are common. Here we have seen Asiatic Elephant, Bengal Tiger, 2 species of Crocodile, Smooth-coated Otter, Spotted Deer and many more including countless species of birds. All of this just a short hop from our resort – it is a great location to spend some time in the evenings to see the sun set, watch birds flying to roost, and perhaps catch a glimpse of one of the parks wonderful larger animals.
